“Aging happens over time because our cells are exposed to free radicals and inflammation. When this happens, the structures that are involved in cell replication and longevity – telomeres – shorten, so anything that reduces inflammation and free radicals can, is helpful, “says Alicia Galvin. RD, Nutritionist at Sovereign Laboratories.
“Curcumin activates certain proteins like AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), which helps fight cell damage and promotes longevity.”

“Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a concentrated polyphenol in green tea,” explains Galvin. “It induces autophagy, the process by which your body removes damaged cellular material.”
Additionally, in a small study of 73 overweight and obese women published in BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies, EGCG was found to lower LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, and increase leptin levels, a hormone associated with satiety.

“CoQ10 decreases with age, and CoQ10 supplements help reduce the build-up of free radicals that accelerate the aging process,” says Galvin.

Adding resveratrol – a compound found in a number of red wines, red fruits, and peanuts, among others – to your normal routine is a great way to fight aging from the inside out.
“Resveratrol can promote longevity by activating genes called sirtuins,” says Galvin. “That doesn’t mean you can drink red wine and you can’t age, but resveratrol can be very effective as a supplement.”

Vitamin D, a vitamin naturally synthesized through the skin from exposure to sunlight, can have profound antiaging benefits when taken in supplement form.
“Vitamin D enables the body to absorb calcium, which can promote bone health and reduce the risk of fractures,” says Diana Gariglio-Clelland, RD, a nutritionist at Next Luxury.
Citing the 2015 study published in the Journal of Advanced Research, Gariglio-Clelland notes that vitamin D has also been linked to a reduction in UV damage.
